A Guide To Personal Injury Claims For A Car Accident In Slovenia
This guide to making a personal injury claim due to injuries caused by a vehicle accident in Slovenia, also contains a lot of information that relates to holiday accident claims in general. The guide begins by providing you with important information that you will need, in order to be able to deal with the accident and its aftermath. This includes how to contact the emergency services, how to make sure you get the medical treatment that you need, and how to manage the accident at the scene. You will also find a section that covers the kinds of things that you can do to prepare for making your claim once you return to the UK.
In the second half of this guide, we move on to give information about the claim itself. You will find a table that details some typical amounts of compensation paid for a range of different injury types. You will also find a list of many of the types of damages that could form part of your overall settlement.
In the last part of this guide, we will give an overview of the Legal Expert national claims service. This is available to people all across the UK. It is a straightforward and effective way for you to have your claim processed. To learn more about this service, you can speak to one of our team on the number at the bottom of this guide.

Important And Emergency Telephone Numbers
Even though the number of fatal accidents in Slovenia have reduced (see graph above), accidents do still happen that affect tourists. One of the key pieces of information you are going to need in order to be able to deal with your Slovenia traffic accident, is how to contact the emergency services. As with most European countries, Slovenia has provided a unified number for the emergency services. Dialling 112 from any phone, even if it doesn’t have a local SIM card, will get your through to an operator who can speak English. This operator will evaluate your situation, and then send any required emergency services. It is also possible to contact each emergency service directly, on these numbers:
Healthcare In Slovenia – What Might You Need To Pay?
If you have been the victim of a road traffic accident while you are abroad, you will need to have your injuries treated. Doing this in Slovenia is very simple. However, one caveat is that you will need to have a valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) on you when you visit the hospital. EHIC is a full reciprocal healthcare agreement between many European countries, and it entitles you to emergency treatment for free in Slovenia.
What EHIC won’t cover, are non-required medical procedures, dental care, or outpatient treatment. You are only entitled to the treatment needed to stabilise you and to take care of your injuries. If you do need additional treatment that EHIC doesn’t provide for, you are going to need to pay for it somehow. This means either having a valid health or travel insurance policy that can cover it, or paying out of your own pocket. If you do have to pay for treatment yourself, you could potentially claim the cost back as part of your final settlement.

Had A Car Accident In Slovenia? Here Is What You Should Do
If you are involved in a road accident Slovenia whilst visiting the country, there are some steps you should take at the scene of the accident. These steps will make sure everyone is safe, and that road hazards for other drivers are minimised. They include:
- Check for injured people. Make sure that anyone who is injured is safe from further harm. Do not move them unless you need to, as you could cause further injury.
- If it is safe to do so, remove any obstructions or hazards from the roadway, this includes moving the vehicles involved to the side of the road.
- Contact the emergency services, and make sure help is on the way for the injured parties.
- Contact the police to report the accident, so that they can attend the scene if they need to.
- Exchange details with all of the drivers that are involved in the accident. This means driver’s licence information as well as insurance information.
Taking steps such as these will help you to firstly ensure that everyone is being helped, and secondly, that you have disbursed your legal obligations at the scene of the accident.
What To Do After An Accident Abroad
We gave some answers to the question, I have suffered injury abroad what to do? In the section above, that details what to do at the scene of a road accident abroad. This section comes at the question from a different angle; it covers some of the things you can do that will be of benefit to potentially making a claim when you get back to the UK. These steps will all leave official records of your injuries and how they were caused. This will streamline the claims process, and possibly improve your chances of the claim being successful. You can take steps such as:
- Gather evidence at the scene of the accident – if it is safe to do so, take photographs using your smartphone.
- Gather witness details – name, address and phone number, so that your solicitor can contact them to give testimony if needed.
- Visit the hospital – to have your injuries treated; this will ensure that they are officially recorded.
Once you have taken steps such as these covered above, Legal Expert will be able to process your claim for you more efficiently. Speak to one of our team at the bottom of this page, so that they can help to get your claim started today.
How To Report A Car Crash In Slovenia
Although we recommend that you always contact the police if you are involved in a car accident in Europe, even though it is not always necessary, in certain circumstances it is a legal requirement. For example:
- Private property (including vehicles) has been damaged to a value of more than 3,999 Euros.
- Somebody has been killed or injured.
- One of the drivers involved seems to be drunk or under the influence of drugs.
- Government property has been damaged.
- There is some form of a dispute over who caused the accident.
- The road has been obstructed or blocked.
- There is fuel leaking from one of the vehicles.
You must call the police and report the accident in any of these circumstances. Failure to do so could result in the police prosecuting you. Most of these are common sense, but it is important to remember these legal obligations are not optional, they are mandatory.
Whiplash Accident Abroad Claims
Of all the types of claims we help people with here at Legal Expert, the single most common of all, is whiplash claims. With over £2 billion worth of these claims made every year in the UK, it is easy to see why we see them most frequently.
Whiplash is a generalised injury. This means no specific symptom can be highlighted. Instead, several generalised symptoms result in pain and stiffness of the neck. Because of the difficulty in diagnosing whiplash, it has been the basis of fraudulent claims in the past. Therefore, all whiplash claims are looked at closely. Legal Expert can arrange for you to have a free local medical examination to support your whiplash claim. Speak to one of our team on the number at the bottom of the page to arrange this. The NHS has published some excellent information on whiplash here:
What Can Your Overseas Accident Claim Include
When your personal injury solicitor successfully processes a compensation claim for you, then the overall settlement you receive will be for a range of different types of damages. These damages will fit within the two main categories. One of these is for physical harm (general damages), and the other is for financial and other non-physical losses (special damages). Typical examples of both special and general damages would be:
- Special damages:
- Medical fees, if you have had to pay for some kind of private treatment for your injuries, such as physiotherapy, etc.
- Travel costs, if you have had to travel to the hospital or elsewhere to have your injuries treated. It also covers any travel you have to do to deal with the claim itself such as attending court.
- Cost of care, if you have needed help, either nursing help to care for you at home, or general home help to assist with the cleaning and maintenance of your home.
- Loss of earnings, if you were forced to take an extended period of time away from work while recovering, and you either partially or entirely lost out on pay because of this.
- Lowered future prospects, if you will have to change jobs, or stop working entirely due to your injuries, and this will lower your future earning potential.
- General damages:
- Pain and suffering, for all of the pain that you felt at the time of the accident, and also while you were receiving emergency treatment and there after.
- Mental trauma, for the shock of being involved in an accident, and caused by receiving wounds.
- Psychological damage, if you have developed a psychological condition such as post-traumatic stress disorder due to the accident.
- Extended recovery time, if you will have to spend weeks, months or years recuperating from your injuries.
- Lowered life quality, if your injuries will never heal entirely, and you will be left with some form of permanent disability.
The types and amounts of damages you can claim will be unique to your own claim. If you call Legal Expert on the number at the end of this page, one of our team will be able to give you a rough estimate of the types of damages, and how much, you could be able to claim in your own case.
