By Emily Jones. Last Updated 12th June 2024. Waxing is a relatively safe and effective form of hair removal.
However, some people can experience waxing allergic reactions. If you have experienced an allergic reaction after waxing legs, allergic reaction after facial waxing or a Brazillian wax allergic reaction, it could be possible to recover compensation from the beauty salon where the treatment took place.
Your compensation package may include funds to compensate you for the pain, suffering and loss of amenity your injuries caused, and funds to pay for any medical treatment you may need as a result of your injuries, including counselling.
Legal Expert can connect you to a personal injury solicitor to handle your allergic reaction to waxing treatment compensation claim.
Our solicitors have thirty years of experience handling compensation claims for negligent beauty treatments.
We can also handle your claim on a No Win No Fee basis, so there is less financial risk to you.

How To Claim For An Allergic Reaction To Waxing
As outlined in the Occupiers’ Liability Act 1957, a party in charge of a premise should take steps to ensure that you are reasonably safe whilst you visit. This duty of care extends to owners of beauty salons; they should take steps to ensure you don’t suffer an allergic reaction to waxing.
In order to make a valid personal injury claim for compensation, you must demonstrate:
- You were owed a duty of care;
- This duty of care was breached;
- You subsequently were injured or harmed.
If you have had treatment involving wax and had an allergic reaction, you could start a claim. However, you’ll be asked to provide evidence of any injuries you have sustained as well as proof of negligence on behalf of the beauty salon owners.
Examples of evidence could include:
- Witness contact details
- Your medical records
- A diagnosis from an independent medical expert
- Notes you have kept about the incident and what happened
- Photographs of your injuries
- Proof of any financial losses
For further guidance on what evidence you could collect, speak to our advisors at any time free of charge. They could also put you in touch with one of our specialist personal injury solicitors, who could help you gather evidence.
Time Limits For Allergic Reactions To Waxing
When pursuing a waxing allergy claim, there is a time limit you must adhere to. Generally, you have 3 years to start your claim from the date you were injured. This time limit can be found in the Limitation Act 1980.
However, there are also some exceptions to this time limit. These are:
- People who suffered an allergic reaction to waxing under the age of 18. The time limit will be paused until their 18th birthday. From which, they will have until their 21st birthday to begin the claiming process.
- People who suffered an allergic reaction to waxing that do not have the mental capacity to pursue a claim. The time limit will be paused indefinitely unless they regain this mental capacity. In this case, the 3-year time limit will begin from the date of recovery.
While the time limit is paused, a court-appointed litigation friend may be able to start the claim on the injured person’s behalf.

Allergic Reactions To Bikini Waxing
Bikini waxing refers to the practice of removing the pubic hair from the bikini line (the skin that is visible outside a woman’s underwear, or swimsuit). Bikini waxing can also include Brazillian waxing, where the hair is entirely removed from the vagina, except for a small strip at the centre. The skin around the vagina is very sensitive which means that a bikini line wax or Brazilian wax allergic reaction could be more painful. Because this is an intimate area of the body, seeking medical treatment could be a distressing experience.
If you have been injured by an allergic reaction to bikini waxing, you may be eligible to claim compensation. Legal Expert can connect you to a No Win No Fee solicitor to handle your claim. We understand that this can be a sensitive issue, so if you would rather speak to a female advisor when you call us about making your claim, please let us know and we can advise you.
Eyebrow Waxing Allergies
It’s possible for you to suffer an allergic reaction whilst having your eyebrows waxed. If you have evidence that the negligence of the beautician delivering the waxing treatment was the cause, you could potentially claim.
For an eyebrow waxing treatment, it’s common practice for the beautician to ask beforehand if you have any allergies. They may also ask you to complete a form where there’s written proof of you stating any allergies or perform a patch test on your skin to determine if you have any previously unknown allergies.
If none of this occurs, and you suffer an eyebrow wax allergic reaction as a result, then you could potentially claim against your beautician for negligence.
You may not realise that you’re allergic to wax until you receive the treatment. However, you could still make a compensation claim if the beautician breached their duty of care towards you. Contact us today about how to make a compensation claim if you suffer an allergic reaction from waxing.
Compensation Payouts For A Waxing Allergic Reaction
If your compensation claim is successful, you could be awarded two heads of claim. The first is general damages, which is the main part of your award. General damages compensate you for the suffering, the loss of amenity and the pain that you have experienced as a result of your injuries.
You may also be awarded special damages. These are damages which reimburse you for additional out of pocket expenses that you have experienced in making your claim.
If you wish to make a compensation claim for an allergic reaction to a waxing treatment, you may be wondering how much compensation you could claim for your injuries. Claiming For Financial Losses
As well as general damages, you may also be awarded special damages if your allergic reaction to waxing claim succeeds. Special damages are funds that reimburse you for any expenses or financial losses that you have experienced as a result of your compensation claim. Examples of special damages that you could receive, include the following:
- Medical expenses
- Travel expenses
- Care expenses
- Reimbursement for any lost income
The medical expenses you can claim may include counselling if you suffered a loss of confidence after your ordeal.
It’s important that you retain all receipts, bills, invoices and bank statements as, without evidence, you may not be able to recover the costs. For more information, get in touch with our advisers.
